What I love about this piece

• This is the first malachite honu I’ve made, and it’s completely one of a kind. The richness of the green in the shell really stands out and feels like an homage to the islands and the turtle itself.

• I wanted the shell to feel layered and dimensional, the way a real honu shell holds depth and history so I brought in a mix of textures throughout the piece. 

• The head is one of my favorite parts. The natural agate banding radiates outward almost like a focal point, and it adds a really strong sense of movement.

• Malachite is known for its swirling patterns and transformative energy. It forms over time when copper-rich minerals react with carbonated water, creating its distinctive patterns.
