What I love about this piece

The blue in this piece is really unique... there’s a depth to it that shifts depending on the light, but what I love most is the dark banding that runs throughout each island. I tried to carry that banding across the entire composition, from the Big Island through O‘ahu and Kaua‘i. It almost reads like a current moving through the piece, which is where the name came from.

It also has a really topographical feel, something I naturally lean into in my work. The islands feel structured, but still fluid, like a map shaped by movement over time.
